The diagnosis of my wife’s breast cancer, based on the tests carried out at the Himalayan Hospital, struck us like a thunderbolt, on the 22nd of June 2011. My daughter and I could not believe that such a disease could afflict my wife. Getting back home, we collected ourselves and started praying and researching on the internet, on how we could meet this challenge. Friends and relatives could only give sympathy. During the ensuing week, in my internet surfing, I came across a blog at Elyn Jacob’s Blogsite, the end of which said,” Information is power and it has never been more important to be informed and knowledgeable about your medical care. My goal is to get this information to women and to empower them to make choices that fit their own individual needs.”
It dawned in my consciousness that I should write to this lady for advice, sending her my wife’s test reports. The warm hearted response was immediate; and one mail led to another with regularity, everyday. Elyn spelled out the latest knowledge on the subject blending it with her own personal experience and sincere advice. In this traumatic time, till and after the mastectomy, on the 19th of July 2011, it was Elyn who held our hands and walked us through, helping us make the correct decisions. I will remain indebted to Elyn for the rest of my life. I have found in her, a sincere friend, a mentor and a coach armed with profound knowledge on the subject- a rare combination in a good human being. I am reassured, that, even in this lonesome journey ahead, where we have opted for the alternate therapies of Quigong, diaphragmatic breathing, and diet and lifestyle changes , Elyn will always be there. All of us wish Elyn success in her Journey to empower others to get over their difficult times, by making the right choices, after the diagnosis. Subodh and Renu Abbhi September 21, 2011
“Elyn worked with my caregiver who was diagnosed with colon cancer and provided invaluable guidance – including researching and interviewing doctors to find the best possible care, counseling on what to expect from initial tests to surgery to chemo, advising on nutrition and support programs. Elyn brought a combination of expertise, relentless advocacy and compassion at a critical time, and has made a huge positive impact.” Lisa Donohoe March 24, 2011
“In December, I was given the devastating news that I had been diagnosed with breast cancer. At the suggestion of the head of school of my sons’ school, I contacted Ms. Jacobs who is herself a breast cancer survivor.
From the moment I reached out to Elyn, she afforded me a comfort and compassion that made a very difficult situation so much easier. Elyn was with me for all of my doctor appointments, took notes, and asked the important questions that I would have never thought to ask. Elyn provided clarity to what I did not understand and was an objective voice of reason during a difficult and trying time.
Elyn listened to all of my worries and concerns, and offered me crucial advice during a great time of need. Her unwavering support is more than I could ever imagine or expected from anyone, let alone someone that I barely even knew before my diagnosis. Not only was Elyn physically and emotionally there for all of my appointments, she was also the one that took care of any problem at any time. Elyn was the one who organized the food deliveries throughout my recovery (a practicality that never would have occurred to me). This is just one example of the kindness and thoughtfulness that Elyn provided throughout my recovery.”

Love your new site Elyn. You are amazing and help so many people. Keep up the wonderful work. I look forward to reading all of the upcoming posts!
Elyn has the knowledge of ways one can help themselves or a loved one get through the horrors following a diagnosis of cancer and, without hesitancy was happy to go to bat for me each time I needed it. She’ll even go to appointments with you – if this is what you want. “What you want” is really key here, meaning Elyn really listens plus has a huge heart and she gave me the support and confidence whenever I most most needed it. I highly recommend her professional services to anyone who has cancer (just as she herself once has had). As strong as I know I am after all I have been through ( brain tumor and breast cancer) and as much research as I myself have done, there were always times when I needed someone who understood exactly where I was coming from and did not want to shove his perspective down my face. Elyn treated me with respect (which God knows, we all need) . Elyn is a very special person and someone I am so grateful to have had on my team. And she can help you whether you live in NY or not – she helped me via the internet and phone during those times when I so wanted to take off to Tahiti and leave the cancer and doctors behind. Elyn was there for me each and every time. I will forever be grateful.
